A Personal Planning Tradition
Years ago, I learned the power of intentional annual planning from a mentor. He and his wife took a yearly retreat to review key areas of their life: marriage, work, family, and more. Inspired by them, my husband Mike and I started our own tradition, taking time each year between Christmas and New Year’s to reflect, dream, and plan.
Later, through the Coach Training Institute, I discovered the Wheel of Life—a tool that helps assess the eight main areas of life. We would rate each area, compare our wheels, and set both individual and shared goals. Over the years, this practice evolved and strengthened our family and marriage.
Even after having our girls, we continued this tradition. Now, 25 years later, it remains a foundational part of my life and leadership.
